We've been hard at work improving Hemingway, and we're excited to share some of the new features we've added.

Improved sentence rewriting AI

We improved our AI model for fixing wordy sentences. The new model has fewer failures and generates better rewrites. It also reduces the need for a second rewrite. You can try it by clicking the "Fix it for me" button on red and yellow highlights.

Toggle reading level target

Different audiences have different reading levels. Editor Plus subscribers can now relax things for academic and technical writing. Or, they can make the editor stricter for better accessibility or younger audiences.

To change the target reading level, click the settings button next to the "Readability" heading in the right sidebar of the editor. Then, select the target reading level you want to use.

You no longer use an AI sentence credit if the AI doesn't lower the grade level of your writing

No AI is perfect. Sometimes, ours doesn't lower the grade level of your sentence or passage. Going forward, you won't use up any monthly AI credits if a suggested rewrite fails to score lower than your original.

Override our dark mode settings

Hemingway Editor uses your operating system's dark mode setting by default. Editor Plus subscribers can now choose to set the Editor to always use either light or dark mode, regardless of your OS dark mode setting.

To change the dark mode preference, click the Menu button in the Editor's top-right corner. Then, select "Settings." This will open the settings page, where you can set your dark mode preference.

Try Hemingway Editor Plus

Hemingway Editor Plus fixes common writing issues like wordy sentences, passive voice, and more — with the click of a button.
